Rhode Island Greening
Late fall. One of the oldest American apple varieties, originating in the 1650's in Rhode Island. The fruit is medium to large, round and symmetrical, with green skin and occasional orange flush. The Rhode Island Greening apple is firm, rich and juicy, with peculiar, tart, refreshing, pleasantly acid flavor. Also highly regarded as a baking apple, this is a favorite for pies.
